McGill Road Temporary Housing is a 55-unit housing program operated by the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Kamloops in partnership with BC Housing. The program provides safe, stable temporary housing and individualized supports for people experiencing homelessness.
Designed as a bridge between emergency shelter and permanent housing, McGill Road offers residents a supportive environment where they can focus on their health, wellness and long-term housing goals.
CMHA Kamloops staff are onsite 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing support through a Housing First, trauma-informed, harm-reduction and culturally safe approach. Residents have their own furnished living spaces, with access to shared dining and gathering areas, kitchen facilities, showers, laundry and storage.
Resident supports and services include:
- Daily meals
- Individualized case planning and housing support
- Life-skills and employment training
- Connections to health and community services
- Culturally appropriate services and supports
- Harm-reduction and overdose-prevention services
- Transportation assistance to access offsite services
- Support in transitioning to longer-term housing
Residents are encouraged to actively participate in developing their individual housing and wellness plans. The program emphasizes building stability, strengthening independence and connecting people with the resources they need to move forward.
McGill Road Temporary Housing is part of the Province of British Columbia’s Homeless Encampment Action Response Temporary Housing (HEARTH) initiative, developed in partnership with BC Housing and the City of Kamloops.
McGill Road is a residential housing program and does not provide walk-in or drop-in community services.
